Sesame Ginger Whisky Toddy
Warm whisky and ginger tea gain a lightly nutty sesame-honey finish.

The formula
Ingredients
One drink — all oz are US fl oz
- 1½ oz blended Scotch whisky
- 4 oz water
- 3 thin fresh ginger slices, about ⅛ inch thick each
- ½ oz honey
- ¼ tsp toasted sesame oil
- ½ oz fresh lemon juice
- 1 thin lemon wheel
Equipment
Heatproof 10-oz glass mug, small pan, fine sieve
Allergens and ingredient notes: Alcohol, sesame; honey included.
Liquid oz means US fluid ounces (1 fl oz ≈ 30 mL); solid ingredients use the weights or spoon measures listed. Each recipe makes one drink. For adults 21 and over.
The process
Step by step
- Simmer water with ginger slices covered for 5 minutes. Strain into a measuring cup and top back up with hot water to exactly 4 oz, discarding ginger.
- Prewarm heatproof mug with hot tap water then empty. Stir honey and sesame oil together in mug, add hot ginger water, whisky and lemon juice and stir well. Garnish with lemon wheel; serve warm, without ice.
The Devotti twist: A few drops of toasted sesame oil give the ginger-honey toddy a nutty aroma without a separate infusion.
Make ahead and storage
Mix one drink to order and serve immediately; do not store a diluted finished drink.
