Tamarind Mint Rum Swizzle
Tart tamarind and rich rum lift through crushed ice with mint and aromatic bitters.

The formula
Ingredients
One drink — all oz are US fl oz
- 1½ oz aged rum
- ½ oz overproof rum, about 114 proof
- ¾ oz fresh lime juice
- ½ oz agave syrup
- ¼ oz unsweetened seedless tamarind concentrate, not sweetened drink syrup
- 6 fresh mint leaves
- 1½ cups crushed ice
- 2 dashes aromatic bitters
- 1 small mint sprig
Equipment
Tall 12-oz highball glass, swizzle stick or bar spoon
Allergens and ingredient notes: Alcohol; check bottled ingredients for allergens.
Liquid oz means US fluid ounces (1 fl oz ≈ 30 mL); solid ingredients use the weights or spoon measures listed. Each recipe makes one drink. For adults 21 and over.
The process
Step by step
- Clap six mint leaves between palms and put into tall glass. Add both rums, lime, agave and tamarind; stir until tamarind dissolves.
- Fill glass two-thirds with crushed ice. Swizzle or churn with a bar spoon for 15 seconds until frosty. Top with remaining crushed ice, add bitters across surface and tuck in mint sprig.
The Devotti twist: Tamarind adds sour depth beneath mint while an aromatic bitter cap changes the aroma with every sip.
Make ahead and storage
Mix one drink to order and serve immediately; do not store a diluted finished drink.
