Equipment
Two 400–500 mL lidded jars, mixing bowl
Allergens and ingredient notes: Milk; oats may contain gluten. Dark chocolate may contain soy or milk. Estimates use plain nonfat Greek yogurt, 1% milk, and the listed 10 g chocolate for the full batch.
Step by step
- Whisk milk, the oat-layer yogurt, cocoa, cooled espresso, maple syrup, and the oat-layer vanilla until no dry cocoa remains. Stir in rolled oats and chia. Rest 10 minutes and stir again to distribute chia evenly.
- In a separate bowl, mix the topping yogurt with its own ½ tsp vanilla. Spoon half of the oat mixture between 2 clean jars, add half of the vanilla yogurt between them, then repeat the layers with the remaining oats and yogurt.
- Cover and refrigerate at least 6 hours, preferably overnight, until the oats soften and chia thickens the mixture. Keep at 40°F (4°C) or below.
- Before serving, divide raspberries and chocolate shavings over the jars. Eat one full jar per serving. If the oats are too thick, stir in a splash of water; additional milk changes the estimate.
The Devotti twist: Cocoa and espresso create a brownie-like flavor while the unsweetened vanilla-yogurt stripe gives contrast without protein powder.
Make ahead and storage
Refrigerate covered for up to 3 days. Keep toppings separate until serving for the best texture. This recipe contains caffeine; decaf espresso works in the same quantity.
